Back row (left to right): Tim, George, Titus, Joe, Tony, Dave, Priscilla.
Front Row: Demosthenes ‘Denny’, Niki.
Here they are, the Plomaritis family in 1976. This was one of the last times that all 9 of them would be together in the same place at the same time. Papoo was the first to go in 1980 at a ripe old age of 94, his loving wife followed 10 yrs later. Their son George would succumb to cancer in 1992 and then in the 2011 the oldest, Tim, would die of a heart attack in his daughter’s arms. His last words “I love you” were as his daughter Phoebe related…”to everyone not just me.” Sadly we now have to add dear Uncle Joe to this list. He passed away on May 22 at the age of 84.
…It all began in Greece back in the early 1900’s when Demosthenes boarded a boat and left his homeland first to go to Lesbos then from there he came to America. The story I’ve heard is quite interesting and may seem shocking to those who don’t know. He had a job working for a man selling produce/cheese/olives..etc. He took the money he was supposed to give his boss and used it to get a ticket to America. If he hadn’t done that and left when he did….we wouldn’t be here now. Some years after that, when he had gotten the money, he sent it all back to the man he was working for there. It was important for him to do that.
(These are the stories that I remember. If I am incorrect please let me know)
